| The Plaza Supermarket is still standing proud after 46 years of service to the Raton community. The building, on the corner of First and Sugarite, has seen many faces walk through its door, including five owners. Plaza Supermarket is currently owned by Gabriel and Lindy Lucero. Gabriel and Lindy are residents of Las Vegas, NM, and have three children. The eldest, Antonio, is a freshman at West Point, Monica is a senior at Robertson High School and Elicia, who also attends Robertson, is a freshman. For years Gabriel's work took him to grocery stores across northern New Mexico. After gaining an understanding of the food business, he decided to take a shot at it himself. Gabriel and Lindy took over the store in July of 2000 from Mark and Beth Moore. Gabe and Lindy plan to expand the Plaza Supermarket by adding a hot deli section and increase their wholesale distributorship to local restaurants and other businesses.

There has been one employee whose outstanding service to Plaza Supermarket has shined through the years. Clarence Grant, 78, of Raton has been with the Plaza for 43 years. Clarence started in the produce department and has worked his way up to the manager position, where he is now.
In today's business world where you don't always find good service, the Plaza still prides itself on friendly hometown service. In addition to meeting all your grocery needs, the Plaza Supermarket offers a full service meat market and a full line of alcoholic beverages. They are also a Western Union location and issue money orders, sell New Mexico lottery tickets; and an ATM is also available at the Plaza Supermarket. written by Monica Lucero.
