Legacy Assisted Living
 

   Up and running for nearly a year now, The Legacy at Trinidad (on Santa Fe Trail, one mile north of Holiday Inn), is a 16,000 square foot assisted living home with 25 apartments for rent. Apartment sizes range from a small studio to a large one bedroom. Most have their own kitchenette, and residents control their own heating and air conditioning. The facility has a therapeutic spa, beauty/ barber shop, weekly housekeeping, laundry service and landscape maintenance. Another advantage to the assisted living home is having qualified staff to assist with medication. Families often comment how well their family member is doing once they're eating consistently and taking their medication regularly. This assistance can make a tremendous difference.

   Another benefit of living in an assisted community is the 24-hour call system. According to administrator Elisa Ingoldby, staff members supervise the facility around the clock providing peace of mind to families who are worried about their loved ones. Also provided are three meals every day with snacks, activities in the morning and afternoon, and occasionally in the evenings. Special times in the house are visits from school children or when outside volunteers come by to offer their services.

   The Legacy is proud that each month an educational seminar is scheduled for residents on various topics. So far, business people from both Trinidad and Walsenburg have stopped by to educate residents on such topics as Medicare reform, massage therapy and foot care.

   If independent, one can still live on their own. Southeast of the large home are independent duplex homes that are two bedroom and two bathroom where residents live without assistance. Tenants of the duplex homes have the availability of activities, the 24-hour call system, meals, housekeeping, laundry and maintenance. However, residents who are living on their own in the duplex are relatively independent.

Since joining our community, the residents have become one big happy family. Simple pleasures like going to Dairy Queen for ice cream or C & H for lunch, have given residents an opportunity to get out of the house and have a little fun. Staff member Lynda Curro claims, "The house is too quiet when everybody goes to lunch, but it's exciting for everyone to load up in the van and take an adventure."
