Business Feature: La Veta
Shape Up!  2 Peak Fitness

In the fall of 2000, Denny and J. Patterson moved to the beautiful Cuchara Valley from Topeka, Kansas. “After many years in the fast paced life of business,” says Denny, “La Veta was the perfect setting for a change of life experience. We found everything we wanted here, except for a fitness center. After several trips to Pueblo to participate in 'spinning classes', an intense cardiovascular exercise program, we decided to share our fitness experience with friends in La Veta. By starting with just three spin classes a week in November of 2001,” recalls Denny, “we quickly grew to 14 classes each week by the summer of 2002.” The fitness boom was reaching La Veta, and now the Pattersons saw the need for a facility that could fulfill the exercise demands of the entire community. When the old Valley Hardware building, built in 1910, came on the market in August, 2002, the Pattersons had found their fitness facility. Reconstruction of the building began in October, with January 1, 2003, targeted as the opening date. “Since opening, we've had a lot of fun and more positive experiences than we can count.”

The facility covers about 4,000 sq. ft. and is divided into four areas. 1,000 sq. ft. is dedicated as a fitness classroom for spinning classes, boxercise, as well as several strength and conditioning classes. Another smaller area is the “Endless Pool” — a hydraulic powered swimming and water aerobic exercise area. In addition to providing a wonderful swimming experience, the pool allows water exercise for all age groups, and there are currently 10 water aerobics classes offered each week. A private room has been established for Valerie Viosca, an accomplished massage and acupuncture therapist, who provides treatments by appointment. The remaining space is a full-service gym with an extensive array of equipment for both cardiovascular and resistance training.

But the guy who makes things happen at 2 Peak Fitness is John Tork, A.C.E. He has an extensive fitness background, acting as the manager of a large fitness facility in Topeka, Kansas. John moved to La Veta in late 2002 to help design and build the center. In addition to leading various exercise classes, John also offers personal training for those who desire a specific fitness program. 2 Peak Fitness is open daily from 5pm till 10pm. Memberships are arranged on a daily, weekly, monthly, or annual basis so rates are affordable and can accommodate different levels of fitness commitment. Drop by and get started today!
