Francesca's

Commercial Street Revival Commercial Street continues its retail revitalization with the opening of two more stores in the historic Sherman building at 210 and 212 N. Commercial. Francesca's Unique Gifts & Furniture and Queen B's Boutique now join with the Great Escape Bookstore, Stonewall Antiques and Wazubi's to create an exciting new shopping district along the 200 block of Commercial.

The historic Sherman building was originally built in 1885 to accommodate a grocery business. Its past includes not only a grocery store, but also a furniture, clothing, antiques and printing shop. Francesca's and Queen B's are returning the building to its retail roots.

Francesca's Unique Gifts and Furniture at 212 N. Commercial is a blend of the past & present with antiques, nostalgic accent furniture and small gifts. A variety of gift items focus on hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind choices. Owner Fran Villani, a Trinidad native, has returned "home" after many years in Denver. New to the retail market but not to business, Fran not only owned and operated a business in Denver for 8 years, she also taught vocational education to prepare high school students for the work world. "I have always loved Trinidad, and knew I would return some day. I believe Trinidad is on the verge of becoming a destination spot for tourists and travelers, rather than a place to pass by on their way somewhere else." My vision for Francesca's is to have an eclectic store that is visually appealing and personally welcoming," says Fran. "It has been a pleasure for me to see people lingering in the store because they enjoy the atmosphere. It's wonderful to watch someone become excited after finding something special". "My goal is to add one more niche in the retail marketplace hoping that more people will find less reason to shop outside Trinidad. At Francesca's you'll find unique gifts, nostalgic mahogany furniture and antique pieces that date back to the late 1800s. Although the antiques and furniture are purchased specifically for the store, Francesca's also offers quality consignment items. An antique silver shaving mug from a major private collector is one of my prized consignment items."

Fran's also excited that, "more people are traveling down Commercial Street to shop and look around. The Parade of Lights was so grand. It's wonderful that the parade included a section of Commercial Street. My hope is that we continue to be included in activities such as these, and also receive consideration for Christmas lights and decorations. About forty shops now align the street constituting a viable part of downtown area. Francesca's is determined to contribute towards the retail revitalization."
