CALENDAR DISTRIBUTION

his time of year you can be
certain that temperatures are dropping, leaves are falling, days are getting
shorter and the First National Bank in Trinidad, as well as the Huerfano County
Branch Bank in Walsenburg are busy making final preparations for their open
house reception and calendar distribution. |
| This year's effort is the first
calendar of a new millennium, and the 15th Annual Collector's Series Calendar of
Historic Southern Colorado. As in years past, each bank will host a separate
open house reception scheduled for Friday, December 1st from 9am until 3pm. The
calendar will be distributed as a gift to the entire community and all residents
are encouraged to attend.
The 2001 calendar content will uniquely portray the
fascinating history of Southern Colorado by featuring 12 "Centennial
Families" of Southern Colorado. These are families who settled this area in
the 19th century, and one hundred years later, still have descendants here
living, working, and contributing to their local communities. |
| These are families whose names you'll immediately
recognize. It has been said the most valuable resource of a community is its
people. These are just 12 families who in their own way helped shape our local
history. |

|
| The calendar art was gathered from
each family's private collections of older portraits, photographs, news
clippings, letters, memorabilia and personal effects. Throughout the year,
writer Cosette Henritze sat down with seven families in Las Animas County and
put their stories to words. Walsenburg resident Dianne Hanisch did the same with
five families in Huerfano County. Come see the results of their effort. All area
residents and visitors are encouraged to attend and receive a complimentary
calendar. During the reception, visit with the text writers. Mark your calendar
and plan to attend the festivities. |
