Dream it, and They Will Build it! - Spanish Peaks Design

Whether you're in the market for a hand-crafted door or gate with hand-forged hardware, custom cabinetry, commercial or residential signs, building restoration and construction services, or anything else you can dream of, Spanish Peaks Design can make that dream come true. This company truly loves an artistic challenge. The partners, James Scherer, Fred Dixon, and Lorraine Barnett, share their skills, talents, experience and common passion for history, architecture and fine craftsmanship by customizing one-of-a-kind creations.

James Scherer has been in the business of building high-end custom homes, furniture, cabinetry, and other finely crafted wood products and has extensive experience in remodeling and renovation projects. His homes and commercial buildings have been featured in such publications as Country Living Magazine. His hand-crafted gates and doors and architectural components, for custom homes, reside in Denver, Scottsdale and various other locations in the Southwest. Fred Dixon is truly a Renaissance man with skills in silversmithing, blacksmithing, gunsmithing, woodwork, leather craft, and music. His reproductions of historical saddlery and costuming have appeared in such major motion pictures as Tombstone and Son of Morning Star. His talents in artistic and graphic design have been utilized by corporations and publishing companies.

Whether he's creating hand-forged reproductions of architectural hardware or designing a historical restoration project, one can be sure the finished product will be a true work of art. Fred has also shared his knowledge of historical programs by lecturing for universities, museums, and historical societies. Lorraine Barnett completes the partnership with her business experience and knowledge and expertise in historical and southwestern architectural design. As a life-long student of early American and southwestern architecture, history, culture, and art, Lorraine has participated in several historic building restoration projects, and designed award-winning Victorian costumes. She is also a Doctor of Chiropractic with involvement in several successful businesses.

Together, these artisans can expertly handle all phases, from helping the client develop initial concepts, through the design process, and finished construction. With a one-stop shopping approach, rarely does one encounter the full range of capabilities such as their creative abilities, knowledge, and old-world craftsmanship in one company. It's possible to see their works of art every day and not know it. Recent and current projects include: restoration of three historic buildings in Aguilar, the Vicker's House Hotel (c. 1890), the Tamburelli barn (c. 1900), and a private adobe residence (c. 1880). Others include the entry feature and signage for Plaza de la Vista subdivision at Primero, the welcome sign for the town of Aguilar and the territorial-style entry door at the Rock House Cafe, as well as the southwestern theme promotional booth for the Scenic Highway of Legends organization featured at Santa Fe Trail Days in Trinidad and Aguilar Days. So if you're pondering the creation of a special, one-of-a-kind treasure, or if you prefer one-stop shopping on a smaller special project, Spanish Peaks Design can help you manifest your vision.
