Rose Petal Floral and Gifts is the newest flower shop in town since opening
last March at 134 South First Street in Raton's Historic District. Owners
Lynda and John Brown have stocked the shop with flowers and latex or mylar
balloons for all occasions: birthdays, get well, wedding, baby,
anniversaries,
sympathy, or "just because" and even wedding rentals such as an arch
and
candelabras. There are plants, gifts, and a large assortment of paintings
by
local artist, Jim Mullings. The Brown's favorites are portraits of
Shirley
Temple and Sara Jessica Parker. Also included is a young farm girl on a
John
Deere tractor, churches, farms, and landscapes of mountains and rivers.
Another
local artist, Peggy Parsons, displays her hand-made mugs and light huts.
She
created her ceramic huts in the 1990's incorporating designs of horses,
carousels, flowers, and even the Statue of Liberty, to keep her coffee mug
or
drink at her desk.
Treats are also available such as snacks, sodas and ice cream. "Over the
summer we served frito pies and hot dogs to the boy scouts who traveled to
and
from Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron. It was such a big success with the
boy
scouts and locals that we are offering them through the winter on Tuesdays
and
Thursdays." Call or visit the store for all your floral needs, gifts for
