Can you believe it's been 25 years since we published our first historic collector's
series calendar? Some people tell us they have collected all 24 in the series so far. This year, our
25th calendar titled "A Special Time, A Special Place" features modern, full-color photography of the
area's historic sites that still exist today, places rich in local history that you or your family may
remember. Do you know where the ghost town Rugby is located? How about Beshoar's Mausoleum or a Penitentes'
Morada? To find out, join us for our 25th annual silver anniversary open house reception on Friday,
December 3rd, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. As always, the calendar will be distributed as a gift to the entire
community, and all residents are encouraged to attend. As in previous years, separate receptions will
be held in Trinidad, Walsenburg and Raton.
Once again, we relied on Trinidad's resident author and historian Ken Fletcher to create the text.
However, for the very first time we are using full-color digital photography with computer enhancement.
Some photographs appear like paintings, others look like colorful illustrations, or have a 3-D effect.
David Frank of Frank Images in Trinidad produced the imagery. A native of Iowa, by way of Minnesota,
David arrived in Trinidad in 2004 to open his studio and retail gallery. Last year, the A.R. Mitchell
Museum held an exhibit of his work. Recently, his photographic awards include Best of Show and the People's
Choice award at the Ralph R. Solano Memorial Photography Show at the Old Pass Gallery in Raton, and
a first place award for digitally enhanced photographic effects at the 9th Annual TALAS Show at the
Corazon Gallery in Trinidad. Frank also placed second among 56 artists from seven states in the 34th
Annual International Show in Raton. The walls of his shop are filled with beautifully enhanced images
of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico.
Both Ken and David will be on hand in Trinidad to sign calendars and discuss their contributions
to the 2011 calendar. Karen Bayci will be on site in Walsenburg to sign calendars, and Frank and Sandy
Ferri will be signing calendars in Raton. Be sure to join us!
