Our Coffee Hits the Spot
 

  In exciting new business trio is making a big splash on the Raton scene. Two Raton natives, PennySue Kuhns of the Book Oasis and Joan Troublefield of Hadarah Jane Designs, along with their husbands Rich Kuhns and Bob Troublefield, joined forces to open Raton's first specialty coffee shop, Enchanted Grounds Espresso Bar in the historic downtown area. PennySue and Joan recognized a need for a local gathering place as well as a hospitality center for area visitors. Recognizing the coffee business as part of a much larger culinary and hospitality industry, both women and their staff have been professionally trained as baristas (common throughout Europe), and strive to bring a warmth along with professionalism to their businesses. The finest gourmet coffee beans, freshly roasted exclusively from Spanish Peaks Coffee Company of Pueblo, provide a full-bodied, aromatic experience for coffee lovers.

   Enchanted Grounds, located in the old Silver Dollar Bar, provides a casual café-style atmosphere where patrons can enjoy coffee, sandwiches, pastries, cookies and assorted hot and cold specialty beverages. The shop also accommodates the community by hosting after-hours parties and post- Shuler event social gatherings. During the summer months, they will provide a sidewalk patio as well as local entertainment and artwork displays.

   In addition to the espresso bar, the building houses the Book Oasis and Hadarah Jane Designs. The bookstore, which has been in business since 1999, offers a variety of specialty gifts, reading materials, and novelty items. PennySue can also place special orders to please even the most discerning shopper. Joan, of Hadarah Jane Designs, creates artistic, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces which reflect her love of natural beauty and her Christian faith. Together, these businesses bring additional flavor to historic downtown Raton.
