The Pack Rat, a gift shop, has returned to Raton. Janet and LeRoy Valencia originally
opened the store in 2003 and then took a few years off. They have returned to reopen
the store at its original location on historic First Street in downtown Raton.
Although the store looks different from the original, you'll still find the same
friendly service that has always been their trademark. The couple's goal is to have a
variety of affordable and unusual gift items that will suit the tastes of just about
anyone.

You will find many items made by the owners including, but not limited to, handmade
soaps, candles and wood furniture. One-of-a-kind gift baskets (pre-made or custom
made), religious items, kitchenware, cookbooks, and walking sticks are some of the
things you will find. Items made in New Mexico, along with a variety of other gifts
and collectibles make this a well-rounded place to shop for all your gift-giving
needs. A year-round Christmas shop, which will feature unusual ornaments, nativity
sets and other pieces, is in the planning stages. Some items are already in stock and
others will be added.

Since The Pack Rat is located just a couple of blocks from the Amtrak and Greyhound
stations, amenities such as cold drinks and snacks, as well as a complimentary
baggage holding area, are offered for travelers passing through Raton. Special
requests and suggestions are always welcome. LeRoy and Janet will do their best to
accommodate your needs. We want customers to leave our shop happy. New merchandise is
added constantly, so stop in often to see what's new. We're delighted to be back and
invite you to stop in and say hello. Our hours of operations are posted on the door,
but if you come by and the lights are on, ignore the sign and come on in.
