tonewall Gifts and Antiques began
as a small gift shop in the town of Stonewall during the summer of '99. |
| "The original idea of a gift
shop in Stonewall was to display and sell the artwork of the many talented,
local artists during the tourist season. The shop in Stonewall was a great
success," remarks owner, Karen Krick. Later she decided to relocate the
shop to Trinidad, giving her more display space and the opportunity to sell year
round. "The building is bright and it's everything I imagined. Finding this
spot on Commercial street was just by luck so I moved here in February 2000 and
opened in March." Artists who have their works on consignment at the shop
followed Karen to Trinidad offering year around residents as well as visitors a
taste of the beautiful mountains and scenery nearby. Local artist, Joanne
Matthews, has many of her watercolors on display, such as The House on the
Bridge and Joanne's husband, Darryl, has his creative wood works for sale."
Mitsy Ashcraft has also done the House on the Bridge in pastel. Rosana, Whitney
Snow, Jody Whitehead, Betty & Dick Owens, are some of the other talented
artists who regularly supply art to the shop. Long time Stonewall resident, Em
Becker, of the Art Studio in the Mountains has several oil paintings on display.
Besides paintings, there are birdhouses and gourd birdhouses
by the Gourd Lady, Lori Miller, an Aztec sculpture created by Neil Miller,
rustic Segundo art from Julian Lopez, and hand painted items by Beth and George
Alexander, hand-crafted items from Bobbi and Don Forbes, and the cutest snowmen
created by Barbara Dittenber. |

In addition to several different art mediums, Karen
stocks interesting antiques from various sources. "Primitives are my
favorite but I have 50s things too. Old records, bottles, crocks, graniteware,
art glass, and lots of lovely old hats. I hope to expand into the loft for a
Christmas Corner as the season approaches. I carry a little bit of everything
from jewelry to crystal, aspen wood vases and unique boxes crafted by Bruce
Elkins. As wonderful as Stonewall is, I am very excited about being in Trinidad
now. Everyone is so supportive and I love to visit so remember if you're
stopping by for a cup of coffee at Wazubis or getting your hair done at Liz's,
Stonewall Gifts and Antiques is located in-between. Just stop in to say hello or
browse."
