The World of Discovery Learning Center is a unique school that offers a new trend in child care by fostering
a learning environment with the wonders of playtime. Its director and teacher, Lacretia Edwards, holds a B.A. in Elementary
Education with a minor in Early Childhood Development and has credited hours in gifted and special needs children. Her experience
includes eight years as a director and teacher with pre-school children as well as a public school teacher.

The center sits
in a wooded area with a 5,000 sq. ft. outdoor playground with a tree house gym in a shaded area, along with a pool and water
slide. A picnic area and sand box are under a covered roof that makes for a fun summer day of play in the water and sand.
Inside, the center has been remodeled and opens into large play areas with a gym that's ideal for winter activities. "Our
classrooms are filled with colors, equipment and materials for learning," explains Lacretia. "As an educator, I feel children’s
minds are like sponges, ready to absorb information presented to them, so I strive to introduce and teach a new, fun, and
exciting curriculum from which to explore, learn and achieve." |
Each morning the circle time rug is a wonderful place to
begin the day by introducing new material. Children love the stories, finger plays, music and game playing to learn the
alphabet, numbers and elementary concepts. Basic pre-school subjects include science and nature, plus a creative curriculum.
Later, in the morning, kids gather for table time. It's a learning experience creating art projects where children can participate
at their own level by allowing them to become involved and develop their own interests. Learning from life’s experiences
are important tools for growth and development. This approach to childhood development inspires a love of learning for all
ages. "I utilize my education, knowledge, experience, talents and teaching skills to engage critical thinking in such areas
as problem solving, reasoning and impart basic knowledge for kids to learn enthusiastically," remarks Lacretia.

"I would
like to invite parents and their children to visit the center and experience an alternative to child care. We foster a high
learning atmosphere with an educational enrichment program designed to help children meet current academic standards."

In
addition, the center offers a pre-school program for full-day child care, and school tutoring sessions to help others succeed
academically. Part-time and drop offs are always welcome. The Discovery Learning Center is open Monday – Friday, 6:30 a.m.
to 6 p.m. for ages 2-10 years old. Call Lacretia for details.
