s a business enterprise, the
First National Bank in Trinidad is older than the State of Colorado. |
| The bank was operating as a business even before
the city of Trinidad was incorporated as a municipality in 1876. So why is that
important? Because on April 14th of year 2000, The First National Bank in
Trinidad will celebrate its 125th anniversary of business operations with an
open house birthday bash from 9am - 1pm. Chris Huffman, marketing manager for
the bank, announced that details of the event are still being worked out but,
the public is invited to join bank officers and staff for a huge celebration
with food, fun , music, and entertainment - a birthday party! All residents of
the community will receive an invitation by mail and a very special gift if they
attend the festivities. |

It was April 16, 1875 when First National was organized as a
financial institution by a group of leading businessmen. Back then, things were
much different in the world, in the West, and in banking. The Cowboy and Indian
confrontation was at its peak. Airplanes were not in the air, and horses &
buggies were the main form of transportation. Back then, the banking offices
were located in the present Columbian Hotel building. It wasn't until 1892 that
the present 5 story bank building was constructed at 100 E. Main.
By today's standards, 125 years of continuous financial
commitment to a community is a rarity for any type of business. In fact, the
First National Bank in Trinidad is the second oldest banking institution in the
state. The Fremont National Bank of Ca–on City is just 1 year older.
