rinidad State Nursing Home is currently
providing an Adult Day Services Program (ADSP) to meet the needs of adults who
are functionally impaired, isolated at home, or just lonely. |
| The program covers a wide variety of health,
social, nutritional, and related health care support services by a
professionally trained staff. Furthermore, the program provides peace of mind to
both the participants and their families by encouraging socialization,
independence, and recreation in a supervised setting. |

riginally from North Carolina, Kristy Allen
moved to Trinidad 11 years ago. |
| Since then, she's been witness to the
economic ups & downs here and has grown to love the town's character and
appreciate the rich history throughout the area. |
|
| Although these adults may be living with a
caregiver, a professional staff can implement various therapies to maintain, or
improve their level of functioning. These activities can reduce the pressure on
family members responsible for an older adult who cannot be left alone
completely, but yet, does not require 24 hour nursing care. Also, there are
programs to help functionally impaired adults who live alone but depend on
supportive services to improve or maintain their level of independence. Daily
program activities allow adults the opportunity to socialize, create new
friendships, enjoy music, and participate in reality & intellectual
stimulation. Seniors are able to engage in adult life pursuits while in a
supervised setting, and receive assistance with such daily activities such as
access to a beauty salon and barber shop or they can also make arrangements for
bathing.
The first day at Adult Day Services Program is always free and
interested persons can come to discover how the program might benefit them. The
hours are 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. ADSP is located at the Trinidad
State Nursing Home and is a non-profit program, state certified, and Medicaid
approved. Private pay clients are always welcome. It's a minimal fee of $18 for
a half-day or $36 a full day plus a transportation fee. Transportation is
available within city limits, with lunch & snacks provided. Arrangements can
be made for specialized treatment such as physical, occupational or speech
therapies.
| If you have a family member who could benefit
from such activities call Carol Magana, program coordinator at 845-2829 or
Georgette Santistevan, program director at 845-2813 for more information and a
personal tour.

Kristy says, "it's exciting to be a part of
Trinidad's revival from the corner of Animas and Main Street. My daughters
Chelsea, Bethany, Chanel and myself wanted a fresh start and decided to open a
new business and offer local diners another restaurant and entertainment choice.
After deciding to open a restaurant, I spent the next 3 weeks on the east coast
with my family gathering a menu plan.
Kristy hopes to participate in Trinidad's development by
offering hospitality and tasty homestyle cooking to working families at
reasonable prices. The kind of food you ate at Mom's house because she thinks
it's time to see families together again eating out.
"So many people say they can't afford to take the entire
family out to eat anymore. Well they can at Belle West and I invite everyone to
drop by for some of Mom's home cooking."
