Business Feature: Walsenburg
Backbone of the Community - Vigil Family Chiropractic

Who says you can never go home again? Dr. James Vigil did! Born in Trinidad but raised in Raton, NM, James attended New Mexico State University, where he was a Crimson Scholar, and later graduated in 1997 from Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas. After graduation he practiced in Helena, Montana for three years, then relocated to Colorado two and a half years ago and recently opened Vigil Family Chiropractic in Walsenburg. James arrived in Walsenburg to fulfill a growing demand for chiropractic care in Huerfano County, believing this need manifests itself as a growing public awareness that natural health care methods play a vital role in the restoration and maintenance of overall health.

This chiropractic philosophy is based on a belief that the central nervous system is the master system of the body. It controls and coordinates every cell, tissue, organ and system within the body. The central nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. The brain is protected by the skull and the spinal cord by the 24 movable bones of the spine. There are 31 pairs of spinal nerves that branch off the spinal cord between each spinal joint, and this is how the brain communicates with the various organs and tissues of the body. Over time these spinal bones can lose their normal position and motion due to various daily activities or traumas such as improper bending or lifting, poor posture, poor diet, long periods of sitting or standing, emotional stress, not enough sleep, slips and falls, or accidents.

These traumas can cause pinching and irritation to the delicate nerves as they exit between the bones of the spine called a spinal subluxation. A subluxation can result in neck pain, lower back pain, headaches, muscle spasm, and lowered immunity, as well as dysfunction of the tissues or organs these nerves supply. A chiropractic approach to better health locates and corrects spinal subluxations through specific spinal adjustments to restore better motion and position. Correcting this underlying cause of the problem frees up vital communication of the nerves' impulses from the brain to all organs and tissues alleviating pain and symptoms, and promoting health naturally without the use of drugs or surgery.

James’ purpose is to educate people on the philosophy and the benefits of chiropractic because, “I believe that every one can benefit from chiropractic care, from relief of symptoms and pain, restoration of health and well being to live longer, and for an improved quality of life.” If you should have any questions regarding how chiropractic care can benefit you or a loved one, call to schedule an initial consultation.
