| Nineteen sixteen was an excellent year for the Rubin family as Barney and Minnie Rubin came to
Raton and opened The Golden Rule Store. Locating on First Street, across from the train depot, was a calculated business decision by Barney, who
established the retail store four years after New Mexico was officially declared a state. After changing the name to the Golden Eagle, Barney moved
the store to Second Street, which was quickly becoming the business corridor of Raton. During 1924 the Golden Eagle again changed names to incorporate
the family's involvement, to B. Rubin and Sons, as all four of Barney and Minnie's children worked alongside their father and mother. Always
emphasizing customer service and quality merchandise at reasonable prices, the store grew as the family worked hard to serve their customers.

Tammy, Kathryn, Leon, and Randy Rubin
As a decorated World War II pilot, Leon returned from the European theater in the mid 40s to settle in Raton. Leon and Kathryn married
and took over the business, changing the name to Rubin's Family Clothiers, as the times were-a-changin' and current clothing fashion was becoming a
popular lifestyle expression of American culture.
Both Leon and Kathryn became active members of the Trinidad / Raton community by participating in various service and social
organizations for the betterment of the area while their business continued to grow and evolve. Leon and Kathryn's two sons, Randy and Ron, grew up in
the business. Ron and his family eventually moved to Colorado Springs in 1980, while Randy and wife, Tami, continued the evolution of Rubin's and
Sports Arena. Randy brought his inquisitive personality to the business by learning every facet of workmanship and detail in the merchandise he buys,
as well as his training in shoe and boot fitting. Tami, as well, brings her artistic and creative ability, from her background and education, to all
areas of the business, from buying, to that special touch in the printing and embroidery designs. Now, 88 years later, Rubin's Family Clothiers and
Footwear continues to serve the area by offering a mix of casual, dress, and work clothing for men and women, shoes, boots and accessories, while
maintaining a high degree of personal service.

Rubin's and Sports Arena are committed to fitting footwear for the benefit of their customers’ active lifestyles. Athletes or the
sports-minded can find quality footwear, uniforms or sports equipment at Sports Arena. Screen printing is done in-house, and four years ago commercial
embroidery was added to their list of services offered at Rubin's Store. Any quantity of printing or embroidery is possible to meet the needs of the
customers.
