After having practiced in southern Louisiana for
thirty plus years by owning and managing three separate clinics with fifteen
employees, Dr. P.C. Roberts and wife Priscilla decided to relocate and enjoy a
slower pace of life. Both were attracted to the mountains and the area’s
“Old West” history; so in December of 1999, the couple moved to Walsenburg
and never looked back.
During these four years, Dr. Roberts established a
house-call practice and worked on horse farms, checking mares to be bred,
ultra-sounding for pregnancy and housing mares for shipped semen breeding. |
After traveling throughout the county, it soon became apparent the practice
needed to expand operations and establish a home base. Located between the Post
Office and Main Street is their Outpatient Veterinary Clinic, a building for
small animals and a base of operation for equine work.
| The remodeled office building is a full- service facility with
the exception of boarding and overnight hospitalization. Using the concepts of
same-day surgeries and outpatient services keeps costs down and creates less
anxiety for animals when they can stay at home. If a case requires an overnight
stay, Dr. Roberts will refer clients to a veterinary hospital.
As a graduate of Texas A&M, Dr. Roberts was taught to place
a strong emphasis on preventative health care and client education. The new
clinic offers examinations and treatment for the sick, vaccinations, surgery,
x-rays, pregnancy ultra-sonography and dental prophylaxis. He has limited his
practice to dogs, cats and horses. The clinic's office hours are set to allow
for early morning drop-offs and after work pick-ups. Because of the downtown
location all equine work is scheduled at pre-determined times and locations, as
ranch calls are scheduled for mid-day hours. The Roberts would like to thank
