Open House, Calendar Distribution Planned

Open House, Calendar Distribution Planned During this time of year, you can be certain that temperatures drop, leaves fall, days get shorter, and the First National Bank in Trinidad, along with its branch facilities, are busy making final preparations for their open house reception and calendar distribution.
The 2009 Historic Collector's Series Calendar will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the open house reception scheduled for Wednesday, December 3rd, from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. As in past years, separate receptions will be held in Trinidad, Walsenburg, and Raton, New Mexico.
The calendar's title, "Wish You Were Here," takes its theme from a collection of the area's vintage postcards. The official name for collecting postcards is deltiology, and is thought to be the third largest collectible hobby in the world after coins and stamp collecting. According to postcard historians, the first U.S. postcards were souvenir mailing cards available at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago during 1893. Shortly after, publishing companies began printing postcards with various scenes and fancy artwork depicting national holidays for mailing to family and friends.
Throughout the 2009 calendar, you'll find many vintage and a few contemporary postcards of numerous types and styles, which include the communities of Trinidad, Walsenburg, Aguilar, and Raton. As always, the 2009 Collector's Series Calendar is distributed as a gift to these communities and all residents are encouraged to attend. Again this year, area author and historian, Ken Fletcher, found and researched the postcards while writing the text, and will be in attendance to sign calendars at the main bank in Trinidad. Mark your calendar and plan to attend the festivities.
